Fundamentals

All my life, I've pieced together, torn apart, and made again
And these grand designs are what I have to show
Sense of pride, founded on a layer of a good intent
A motive worth unwinding, a stone still yet left unturned in the undergrowth
All my life, all this time, I've built this image of
Stained glass devotion that devours hearts and minds
The panels stacked so deep, they speak to calm, a voice serene
That pleads for a diversion from the source material
I seek to understand the right and wrong, what's missing in my own regard
Standards of legitimacy still remain a mystery
But what's the difference to a promise still to keep?
Soul that's starved, but what's the news you hope to dream about?
Hollow art that begs the question, what's the destination that you seek?
Can you justify the ends that don't compose serenity?
A victim of kind circumstance, casts shadows on ambition's lurid call
Bear it on your shoulders, it's meaningless to me
He seethes in the cover of the mess he laid waste
And this reflex may deceive
Deep in the comfort of a harsh façade
There is a feeling I regard with hesitation
Dancing on a needle's end
Pay these thoughts what they're due, observe your punishment
Don't tell yourself the abuse is just all in your mind
I learned to glorify a standard I could not sustain
I learned to glorify a standard no one could sustain
Yet it's all coming back to me
Forgotten memories that may have been imagined
What does lie underneath all of this decay?
We see all the damage that can stem from prideful notions
But I am good enough
I am good enough
I am good enough
But what if good enough isn't good enough?
Soul that's starved, but what's the news you hope to dream about?
Is it something that reminds you of those traces that you once received?
Grant yourself a dose of patience, things are not as dire as they seem
Take your time to calibrate, it's onto a new horizon's call

Light & Sound

The light and sound wait for a reaction, some vague recognition they're still of consequence
Rejuvenation of an ember once reflected in a better time
Not long ago it was trivial to grab ahold of utter curiosity
With no ethereal possession of perspective I now strive to reach
Lying dormant in the corner
With pensive sigh, longing to await again
But now the lights don't alter the mood in a familiar way, and it all seems just a little colder
Still you stand and bow to an ever fading light
The growth won't feel like it should, we regress and regress, and you won't recall what you were told
Until it's all reduced to the esoteric mystery of the light and sound
There's no need for a eulogy, just cool derision that's worth the sum of resentment that you've been feeling and ache for that feeling's return
Which is worse than a mourning, and closure that it would provide
We regress and regress
So we live in contortion, a mask reinforcing a lie
That the lights still alter the mood, a bid to try and make things whole again
A grim reminder of this gradual decay
Dreamer so naive, author of illusion
Provoked by memory, muzzled by an unfamiliar force
Still you stand and bow to an ever fading light
And now the lights don't alter the mood in a familiar circumstance
Could I in an absent control have been the most in awe I'll ever be?
Now we're clutching vapor, chasing shadows
Comfort seeking behavior for just a glance
Longing for the light and sound's effect

Aquamarine

I can't start this flood on my own
And the only path that remains is growing ever narrow
Will he be the one to rise up, the voice that's heard loud and clear
The last time he'll be so lead on, never again but not now
He's just too jaded, he's what this fallout created
Oh won't you stand, stand with your sisters and brothers
Gather with us now, we'll tell this story some day
No second chance
Never been a day like today to show us your true colors
We hope to see you again at the crest of the wave
Comfort in obscurity is no comfort at all
Step forth and onward, with resonant voice
Reform as one
Oh won't you stand
As the ground beneath you gives way, let the reckoning commence
With hesitation stilled and steeled resolve we echo deep our anthem
A hope for better days, a future that will manifest in our names
At the end of the day
Comfort in obscurity is a comfort to none
Reform as one

Paths Divide
10:19
|
|

Teeth clenched and knuckles tensed, a ringing in his ear, yet still remains much more to prove
Life's not meant for passing inclinations, least of all rejection of what's new to you
It's hard to understand that now the situation's gone, with any chance of a bargain
Lean forward neck first, it's a gamble with your joy
Step forth and collect the ends
On my own, with a calm reserve and steady hand
Won't let them know, I accept I'll say goodbye to everything I've ever known
I'll try to capture all these precious moments, before we ever knew it was the last
And hope what waits there for me, I'll recognize as every bit the same
Hey, how's your life now?
Is it everything you wanted, you thought it'd be in all your dreams?
Lean forward neck first in a toxic lust for worth
Subsidizing future comfort, wise though it may seem
I am the only one to recognize this futile degradation taking everything until it bleeds us dry
Events that run in endless cycles, so predictable
But must I be so constrained to this collective habit?
On my own, with a calm reserve and steady hand
Learn and grow, make no movement toward the setting sun
I'll make the most of bitter situations, with comfort that there's no one less to blame
And side with all the repetition, the opportunity they'd want for me
Share with us, all your hopes and dreams
Everything you thought it would be is right here
I swear to you, you'll never want for any other thing again
Turn around now, it's the only thing that's on my mind
Head down, we need no more than to watch as everyone thrives, assuming we'll join them sooner or later
Comparison is so unkind
Boldness a virtue I'm not so keen
Yet keeps me crawling back
On my own, raising the horizon, taking all I ever knew
I'll toil under generous presumptions
And engineer a vision into being
The sum of all I've ever sown, leading as a fundamental influence
Moving me to honor new extremes
